Finding Polaris Wilderness Community is hiring two full-time interns to join our growing team. These positions provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental education, wilderness programming, community outreach, digital communications, and nonprofit operations while making a meaningful impact throughout Northern Ontario.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the outdoors, environmental stewardship, teaching, and building stronger communities.

Employment Details

Location: Greater Sudbury, Ontario (with travel throughout Northern Ontario)

Employment Type: Full-Time Internship

Hours: 35 hours per week

Duration: 52-week internship

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Anticipated Start Date: September 2, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

Some evening, weekend, and overnight work may be required during workshops, camps, and community events.

Applicants must be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Position 1 - Training & Outreach Coordinator

Funding Stream: Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) – Indigenous Workforce Development Stream

Eligibility

This position is intended for applicants who:

Self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit

Are at least 18 years of age

Reside in Northern Ontario

Are legally entitled to work in Canada

Are entering the workforce, changing careers, or are unemployed/underemployed entering a new field

Have not previously participated in the NOHFC People & Talent Program

About the Position:

The Training & Outreach Coordinator helps deliver Finding Polaris's environmental education and wilderness programming while building relationships with participants, volunteers, schools, Indigenous communities, and community partners.

This position combines outdoor education, community engagement, communications, event planning, and organizational development.

Responsibilities:

Environmental & Wilderness Education

Assist in teaching wilderness skills

Deliver environmental stewardship programming

Support youth and adult workshops

Help facilitate outdoor experiences

Promote ecological awareness and conservation

Community Outreach

Build relationships with participants and partners

Represent Finding Polaris at community events

Coordinate volunteer involvement

Support participant communications

Education Development

Research sustainability, conservation, and rewilding

Develop educational resources

Assist with online learning materials

Communications

Create newsletters

Update website content

Assist with social media

Develop educational communications

Event Coordination

Assist with planning workshops and events

Prepare equipment and materials

Help evaluate program outcomes

Organizational Support

Administrative duties

Program reporting

Digital organization

General nonprofit operations

Position 2 - Digital & Wilderness Engagement Intern

Successful applicants will help deliver educational programming while producing photography, video, written content, newsletters, website updates, and social media that share the mission and impact of Finding Polaris Wilderness Community.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful applicants may possess:

Passion for environmental stewardship and outdoor education

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work independently and within a team

Experience working outdoors

Experience leading youth or community groups (asset)

Photography, videography, Canva, or social media experience (asset)

First Aid & CPR certification (asset)

Valid Ontario driver's licence (asset)

Bilingual (English/French) skills are considered an asset
